Phuket is Thailand's largest island and the most popular holiday destination in Southeast Asia. With its spectacular beaches, crystal-clear waters, picturesque landscapes, historical and cultural sights, as well as all imaginable entertainment amenities, Phuket really is a dream-come-true destination.

Population:

Phuket has around 250,000 residents. The ethnic composition of Phuket is: Thai, Chinese, Muslim, Sea Gypsy, European, Indian, Arabic.

Climate:

Being a tropical island, Phuket's weather is affected by monsoon winds, which keep the island warm and humid throughout the year.

   Hot season : December - April

   Rainy season : May - November

   Cool season : January - March

Boundaries:

   To the North: Pak Prah Strait

   To the South: Andaman Sea

   To the East: Phang-Nga Bay

   To the West: Andaman Sea

Geography:

Phuket is in the south of Thailand, 867 kilometers from the capital city Bangkok. The island lies in the Indian Ocean, from 7'47" to 8'18" North latitude and from 98'12" to 98'32" West longitude. The island is connected to Phang-Nga Province on the mainland by two parallel bridges, Sarasin Bridge and the newer Thao Thep Kasatri Bridge.

Phuket is Thailand's largest island, with an area of 570 square kilometers, surrounded by 32 smaller islands. At its widest point the island is 21.3 kilometers, while at its longest it is 48.7 kilometers.

The island is almost 70 percent mountainous, running from north to south across the western side. The highest point of the island is Mai Tha Sipsong Peak (Twelve Cranes), located in Tambon Patong, Kathu Distirct, having a height of 529 meters.

The remaining 30 percent of the island consists of low plains and small streams, such as Khlong Bang Sai and Khlong Than Rue. These areas lie across the central and southern parts of the island.
