Love it or hate it, Air Asia has changed the face of low-cost air travel in South East Asia. If you’re looking for a cheap flight from Bangkok to Phuket, chances are you’ll immediately check out Air Asia.
If you’re planning to fly with Air Asia from October onwards, you should know that they will be moving all Bangkok flights from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Don Muang Airport by 1 October 2012.
If you’re flying in to Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok and then flying on to Phuket from Don Muang, make sure you have at least four hours between flights. Depending on the time of day, it can take between 45 and 90 minutes to get from one airport to the other. On the bright side, Airports of Thailand say they’ll set up a free shuttle bus for passengers.
A few other budget airlines also plan to make the move so make sure to check which airport you’ll be flying from when you go to book your flight.
International flights direct to Phuket will be unaffected by this change.
To check which airlines are currently operating from Don Muang, check the airport website.
