Tomorrow, October 23, Thailand will celebrate Chulalongkorn Day, also known as Wan Piyamaharaj.
This holiday is held on the same day every year to commemorate HM King Chulalongkorn, or King Rama V, who is remembered as one of the greatest kings of Thailand.
HM King Chulalongkorn ruled Thailand (then known as Siam) from 1868 until his death in 1910 and throughout these 42 years introduced major reforms and did a lot to modernise and develop the country – most notably abolishing slavery.
All government offices will be closed tomorrow, along with banks (except those inside shopping malls), post offices and some private businesses.
Patong Language School will remain open and all lessons will go ahead as scheduled.
