frequently asked questions
about our school and language courses
What if my question isn’t listed here?
Easy! Just send us an email or complete the enquiry form and we’ll get right back to you.
Is Patong Language School an accredited school?
We most certainly are. Patong Language School is accredited and monitored by the Thai Ministry of Education. Our school, trainers and materials undergo an annual inspection to ensure our high standards are upheld. We were granted our private school license all the way back in 1983 and we regularly undergo external quality audits.
Let’s talk prices. How much are your language courses?
The price will depend on which course you take and how long you study for. Check out our ‘Courses’ section for up to date pricing information for each language course. If you want to study for a specific number of weeks that’s not listed, just send us an email and we’ll let you know if we can cater to your request and what the price will be.
How do I book a language course?
Just fill out our enrolment form and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours (except weekends because even we need our beach time) to confirm availability and cost.
I want to book and pay for a course for my friend. Is this possible?
Yes, it certainly is! We can even keep you updated on the student’s progress if you’d like. Send us an email letting us know the student’s name and the course they want to take and we’ll get back to you to confirm availability and cost. Payment can be made by credit card or PayPal on our website, or by bank transfer if preferred.
When do your language courses start?
Each language course has different start dates. You can find start dates for each course in the ‘Courses’ section of our website.
How do I pay the course deposit?
Simply go to the payment page on our website and choose your preferred payment method. You can pay by credit card, PayPal or bank transfer.
When do I pay the balance?
The balance is due no later than the first day of your course, before your first lesson begins. You can make the payment any time before then.
What qualifications do Patong Language School teachers have?
Patong Language School English teachers are degree-qualified, hold recognised TESOL/TEFL (Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language) qualifications and are carefully selected for their experience and friendly personalities. Our Thai teachers are degree-qualified and undergo further extensive in-house training when they join us.
Is there an age limit to study at Patong Language School?
Mostly we teach adults, so the minimum age is 16. There is no upper age limit to learn a language at Patong Language School, just a desire to succeed!
How many students will be in my class?
If you’ve booked private lessons, your classes will be one-on-one with your teacher. There are a maximum of 18 students in our English for Thais group classes and a maximum of 12 students in all other group classes (including English, Thai and German languages).
What if I have to miss a class?
Good question. If you miss a group class, you’ll lose those lessons and can’t make them up at a later time as the class will progress without you. You should always try to attend group lessons so you don’t fall behind the rest of the class. If you’re studying privately, you can postpone lessons by giving us at least 24 hours notice (or 48 hours for lessons on a Monday) but if you don’t give us notice, you’ll lose those lessons.
Will there be homework?
If you’re taking group classes, the teacher will occasionally assign homework when needed (nothing too taxing though, don’t worry). If you have private lessons, your course will be tailored to your personal learning objectives, so just let your teacher know whether or not you want homework – your wish is our command.
Can I book a language course in advance?
You sure can. Fill out the enrolment form or send us an email and we’ll confirm availability and price. You’ll need to pay a deposit to hold the booking and we’ll then send you your Booking Confirmation by email.
Can Patong Language School help me with a visa?
Yes, we can help you get an Education (ED) visa at no extra charge if you study English or Thai with us for 3 months or more. Check out our ED Visa FAQ or send us an email for the latest ED visa info.
Can you help me book accommodation?
We don’t provide accommodation but there are many hotels and guesthouses close to the school. You’ll find even more options when you arrive – there are many to choose from of all standards and budgets, all within walking distance of the school and the beach.
Should I buy travel insurance?
Definitely. There are excellent hospitals in Thailand but they all cost money! Buy a travel insurance policy before you head over here, so you can have peace of mind while abroad. Make sure the policy covers the duration of your time in Thailand and always read the fine print.
There are a number of language schools in Phuket. Why should I study with Patong Language School?
We’re glad you asked! Patong Language School has the experience and resources that other schools just don’t even come close to. Our methods and materials have been used successfully for many years and are continuously revised because we want you to get the most out of your learning with us.
